I recently attended SIWC and had a pitch session with a NY Editor of an established pub. Here is the piece of paper I took into the session.
Pitch: My story, The Backup, is about Maggie, a computer whiz. She stoops to lowly computer repair gigs on craigslist to pay the bills. When her dumb-ass client steals from a dangerous Cartel, the Cartel follows the cops back to Maggie. When the client disappears, she must use her wit and wisdom to fix his laptop to find him in spite of being chased by mysterious men in black leather jackets.
Deeper issues:
- keep long-past romance of local bad boy a secret
- maintain job in cousin’s consulting company instead of losing job to Mac The Hack
- staying sane in large, close-knit Irish family
I wanted to write this humorous mystery because as a programmer, I think the miscommunication and misinformation between the technically literate and everyone else is comical.
This is the first in a series. Each title will have both a technical and humorous meaning in the story. It is a light mystery.
It sounds awesome, you had me at hello.
