What’s your name?

I’m standing at school in one of the big rooms. Kids running around trying science experiments. Parents watching their kids, watching other kids, watching other parents. Adults standing around, some are chit-chatting. Kids trying experiments or running around. Organized chaos.

So my daughter’s best friend wants to introduce her dad, who is standing next to me. The girls run off but he introduces himself anyway. He says his name and I’m sure I misheard him. I named my kids both very odd names so I’m used to the looks when people hear their names. The room was loud. The kids were yelling. I ask him to say his name again. He does. Inside every adult is a kid. I immediately thought how he must have been tortured with that name in grade school. He had the ‘bad’ man’s name in ‘To Kill A Mockingbird.” I think about letting this thought pass but no, I’m still too immature. I ask if he got teased much in school with that name.

Greatest answer ever: He didn’t hang out with anyone that intelligent.
