How and when to Read

Yesterday, during Mother’s Day tea at school, my son’s teacher sat to chat with me a few minutes. If you know anything about three year olds, you know these moments between adults is rare. This also happened to be the teacher with grace. When she speaks, I tend to listen.

She mentioned, out of the blue (unrelated to me writing a book) that she wanted to start carrying her book in her purse. She said the magic word, book, so I asked what she was reading. She couldn’t remember the title but told me the story so that I could narrow it down to a Sherman Alexie book.

She also mentioned she wanted to capture those five or ten minutes while waiting in line around town running errands by reading her book. I also now carry my book in my purse. And I carry the book for the exact same reason, to recapture those few minutes waiting. It is rare that I can sit down and read for even thirty minutes.

So how and when do you read? Do you wish your reading situation would change or you like it just the way it is?

I tend only to have time to read in bed before falling asleep these days… but I’ll take what I can get. :-)
